Reserves 3 - 1 South Reddish WMC Pirates
Another good performance from the Reserves. We did not suffer the usual slow start that had dogged recent games instead we dictated the pace of the match from the start. The quick tempo took the Pirates by surprise and the pace of Levy, Fuller and Jacko proved too much. Jacko got a off the mark with a neat finish, in off the post, following some good work from Levy down the right. Needy then converted a half volley from a Fuller cross from a the left. Pirates struggled with the wingers all through the first half and when Fuller broke down the left again he was hacked down in the box. Needy converted the penalty. The Pirates scored a consolation towards the end of the first half with a nice chip from 18 yards. Ritchie,, Woody, Bobby, Ste Reddy and Daz look to be forming a formidable back line which during the first half restricted the Pirates to only a handful of half chances. Terry made 7 changes at half time and this was reflected as the tempo of the game dropped despite the Reserves still dominating possession. Ste Reddy cleared off the line capping a solid performance. Loz and Rezza showed a good understanding a centre of the defence on their first outing together. Faz looked bright and Ste Cook showed some nice touches before coming off with calf trouble. during the last half hour chances were few and far between for both teams, Dan Wood had a half chance and Ben struck a long range effort which went just wide of the post. The Pirates had a couple of efforts which Ritchie held comfortably. The score remained 3 - 1 as the game fizzled out.
The game illustrated the depth in strength that Terry and Woody have at their disposal. Over the two recent friendlies the defence has been solid, both goals conceded have been from long range efforts, and we have played some excellent attacking football. The acid test will come on 7 September, the opening game of the season, away against EVF.
